专辑取名为搜索引擎，以DJ Food的角度看，我们的生活方式越来越依赖搜索引擎，尽管有人质疑我们的工作和生活，已经开始被搜索引擎控制和牵引，但还有更广袤的空间等待我们用搜索引擎去发现。

Everything is f**kin perfect! (4th July) Boom Monk Ben, regular contributor from Glasgow, steps into the hot seat for the first hour with a lesson in beat broadness. Music on offer from Rustie, Hot Chip, Prince, Spank Rock, Benga & Coki, and bunch more of the finest for your listening pleasure. Strictly Kev takes over for the second hour with vintage Solid Steel from 1996. More gems from the mine, this edition being the first show that Strictly Kev had sole control over without Coldcut or PC. “It was recorded in the heyday of ‘The Blue Note years’ as I like to think of them, the days when Hoxton was still a new haunt for club kids and tourists in the know, pre-333, Cargo, Herbal, White Cube and all the others that came after. This was the year it was all really swinging at the Blue Note, with Ninja Tune, Mo Wax, Wall of Sound, Anohka, Bloodsugar (Weatherall), Far Out and of course, Metalheadz running nights regularly. Gladiators ready! (11th July) Hexstatic storm the studio and deliver some beat broadness for the feet! Ojciec Karol from the Break Da Funk collective out of Poland steps up for the second hour. This week (18th July) DJ Moneyshot is ready to bang in your face baby!! Music on the platters from The Aston Shuffle, Sam Moultrie, Crookers, Black Grass and more gems to get the weekend well and truly up and running! Revival time! PC from DJ Food with another vintage slice of Solid Steel from 1997. The sets incorporate his trademark Boss delay pedal, spoken word, Jazz, Music Concréte, Drum n Bass and heavy beats, all sewn together so seamlessly that it’s impossible to spot the joins. His mastery of the art of DJing never ceases to amaze, as his style is extremely musical but instinctive too, always riding the rhythm and aware of the space around or within a track. Tracks from Charles Earland, Squarepusher and Alvin Lucier to name but a few. Pure Class!

Release Note:

"Don’t be fooled by me, my surface is my mask. Don’t be fooled by the face I wear, for I wear a thousand masks… and none of them are me."
This sample closes the mix and it sums up the label as I see it perfectly whilst referencing the Ninja of folklore that it takes it’s name from. One of the reasons for this compilation is to give the public at large an overview of the label and it’s current roster in 2008. Of course the hardcore fans know what’s going on but to many casual listeners Ninja is still a by-word for blunted downtempo ‘trip hop’ or smokey jazz beats. While they still have their place, look behind this mask and you’ll hear that that is far from their current spot on the musical map.
There are now so many different artists on the label as well as it’s sister labels, Big Dada and Counter, that it is impossible to sum it all up in one musical category. This has always been the case but it can also be problematic – people like categories – and why not? They’re useful, they define our world, making it easier to organise and describe the everyday. But with artists this diverse, from countries all over the world, each with their own agenda, categories are redundant. So what better than to round them all up and make our own one-off category called ‘Ninja Cuts: You Don’t Know’ to show them off?
This compilation is long overdue, the last one was way back in 2000 and the only label overview since has been 2006′s Zen TV which was more of a retrospective look back than a current mission statement. There’s still the Hip Hop, Jazz, Turntablism and Electronica the label became know for. But It’s time to see what’s behind the Ninja mask NOW – you’ll hear drum n bass, folk, dubstep, glam rock, techno and a thousand other styles, none of which sum up the label completely.
