感恩啊感恩！这刚开春儿，就有一张这么牛逼的唱片不由分说的扑面而来，希望这是预示着今年会有更多牛逼的东西听。

"The Death Set"最早在07年被Ninja Tune发现——他们的单曲《Had A Bird》入选当年的Ninja Staff Picks。转年他们就在Counter成功发布了首张专辑《WorldWide》，但好景不长，2009年9月27号，乐队创始人之一吉他手Beau Velasco被发现死在他在纽约的工作室中。这对于the Death Set打击是沉重的，整个09-10年，他们都没有任何动作。

直到2011年，他们在Velasco灵魂的催化下，在Spank Rock制作人XXXChange，以及Diplo的合作协助下，终于在开春儿时分，发布了他们的新专辑《Michel Poiccard》。这张专辑主要的工作就是对Velasco的缅怀，首先以Velasco的声音开场——“I Wanna Take This Tape And Blow Up Ya Fuckin Stereo”。第6首《Is That A French Dog?》中收录了一段Beau Velasco的录音，紧接着第7首《I Miss You Beau Velasco》非常适时的跟了出来。同时，他们也在专辑里与Spank Rock和Diplo各合作一首曲。格外体现了the Death Set吃水不忘挖井人的局气一面。

这张唱片比之前的《Worldwide》虽然更主旋律，但感觉是更加成熟的，也映出了整个乐队的成长。毕竟对于乐队成员来说，这张专辑创作过程中经历的，这两年大起后的大落，足够写本儿书了。

The Death Set’s new album, ‘Michel Poiccard’, comes prefigured by tragedy. For their first record ‘Worldwide’, the core of the group had been the two Aussie ex-pats who moved together to Baltimore in the early noughties – Beau Velasco and Johnny Siera. Just as the pair were about to embark on writing a new album together, Velasco, who had struggled with drug addiction on and off throughout his life, died of an overdose.

The band were shattered, so much so that Johnny still finds it almost impossible to talk about. It wouldn’t have been surprising if the group had decided to call it a day. Instead, Johnny Siera, with long time band members Daniel Walker and Jahphet Landis decided to make the record a celebration of Velasco’s life. Relocating to Brooklyn and enlisting long time friend and Baltimore associate XXXchange (Spank Rock, Kele, The Kills) to man the desk, they created ‘Michel Poiccard’, an album which loses none of the charm of their previous “punk spazz” work but adds considerable depth, both in terms of the punch and bottom end that XXXchange brings to the table, and in terms of a sense of desperate loss or longing, which permeates everything on the record and reaches a considerable pinnacle on ‘I Miss You Beau Velasco’ and the closer ‘Is It The End Again?’

There are songs here about mammoth Ecstasy binges (‘Chew It Like A Gun Gum’), Beasties-like celebrations of arcane handshakes (first single, ‘Slap Slap Slap Pound Up Down Snap’) affirmations of relying on positivity thoughout the roughest of times ‘We Are Going Anywhere Man’, a celebration of one of the stars of A Bout De Souuffle (‘Michel Poiccard (She Yearns For The Devil)’), tales of smashed equipment and angry promoters (‘Can You Seen Straight?’), with a dose of familiar, snotty, punk anthems about French girls with a penchant for taking it up the shitter (‘I Like The Wrong Way’). Diplo drops in for a fight and ends up giving them a keyboard line for ‘Yo David Chase!’ Spank Rock guests on ’7PM Woke Up An Hour Ago’. Yes, all of them are instilled with the same manic Ritalin-and –Sunny-D-induced energy of their earlier records, but it feels like something deeper has happened here, too.

Above it all floats the spirit of Beau Velasco, amused and laconic. Words of his were rescued from samplers and old ProTools sessions so that it is his voice that opens the record with words which could serve as the group’s mission statement, perhaps never so fully realised: “I wanna take this tape and blow up ya fuckin’ stereo!”

法国3人组合Paris Suit Yourself的首张专辑，充斥着各种奇奇怪怪，一张专辑中，歌曲还有英文有法文，主场唱腔很多变，和声则用各种哼唧在乐曲中穿梭。但这些都无法抹煞这张出色的专辑，评价专辑就需要2个字——好听、难听，这张属于前者。

What do you want from the ideal debut album? That it excites you, intrigues you, sometimes confuses you? That it takes risks, is hard to place in terms of the records you already know, that it’s short and sharp and bursting with energy and ideas and even hooks? That it makes you laugh, or cry, or has your jaw occasionally scraping along the floor? That it sets out its stall with utter confidence and no reference to what’s going on around it? That it’s delivered with total conviction? That it fits into no pre-defined ‘trend’ or ‘scene’ and instead creates its own space by force of will? If even a few of those are what you’re looking for then ‘My Main Shitstain’ by Paris Suit Yourself could just be your new favourite record.
The three core members of Paris Suit Yourself are all originally from Bordeaux, although singer Luvinsky Atche only met Marie Boye (bass and vox) and Victor Tricard (guitar, keys and vox) when they were all mingling with the uptight snobs of the capital city which gave them their name. But it was when the band relocated to Berlin (with Marie now back in Paris) and recruited Arkansas drum-lunatic, death metal nut and contemporary classical composer Joe Heffernan that the alchemy was made complete. They went into a broken down studio back in France and laid down ‘My Main Shitstain’ – a forty five minute album over whom the guiding spirits of Keith Levene, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Fela Kuti and Ari Up hover, laughing, shouting and egging the band on.
From Luvinsky’s incredible voice, which moves from angry or ecstatic screams to fragile crooning in both English and French, from Marie Boye’s rock-solid bass and deranged backing vox, through Victor Tricard’s all-out guitar riffology and effortless way with a Korg, to Joe Heffernan’s pedal-to-the-metal polyrhythmic drumming, this is a record you won’t forget in a hurry. It’s also packed with enough hooks for a Justin Timberlake record (but with none of the cynicism).
So there you have it. Maybe the less we say, the better. Sit back, press play. And be careful with that jaw…

Emerging from the fertile D.I.Y. rock scene in Dalston, a gentrification-proof London neighborhood with ample “lo-fi” bands and Turkish restaurants, noise-pop trio Male Bonding plays fast. Nothing Hurts, the band’s first full-length, gets it done in half an hour, and most songs clock in at around two minutes. But, there’s much more to Male Bonding than high-speed, high-impact punk. If you will know their velocity, you will remember their melodies. Every song on Nothing Hurts, whether a clipped, snarling rock anthem (“All Things This Way,” “Crooked Scene,” “Pumpkin”) or something more foggy and contemplative (“Franklin,” “Worse to Come”), carries a hook that’s immediate and permanent. Nothing Hurts was recorded in the fall of 2009 in New York and mixed and mastered by Pete Lyman at Infrasonic Sound.

Ninjatune 2010最佳专辑 之六

Beach House，这支组建于2004年的双人乐队在梦幻流行乐越来越受自赏运动侵蚀的2010年，仍旧交出了一张纯迷幻式梦幻流行乐作品，并赋予其一个落寞又美好的名称“Teen Dream”。从2006年乐队的同名作品让人一尝Victoria Legrand和Alex Scally骨子当中的浪漫情怀之后，他们带给人的惊艳之感已经无法保留到了第二张作品《Devotion》当中，而这本应该属于转型之作的第三张专辑《Teen Dream》却仍旧循着老路，少许怀旧情怀和迷幻影子令人愈发怀念起上世纪那支已经成为神话的Dream-pop乐团Mazzy Star，却也令Beach House的独立形象显得更为模糊更为偏于意识流状态。

漫长的巡演历程促使建立起Beach House的Victoria Legrand和Alex Scally二人内心当中填满了一种叫做空虚的东西，这种空虚成为他们创作这张《Teen Dream》的催化剂却并非动力，虽然二人从出道开始就试图将他们的东西往民谣音乐上靠，最终出来的东西却与民谣无关，更偏于实验意味浓重的梦幻流行，Victoria Legrand极具迷幻意味的声线像袅袅上升的烟雾一般笼罩着Alex Scally的音乐，虽然电子是他们的主奏乐器，且占据了音乐当中的绝大比重，但让Beach House的乐迷深深迷醉的往往仅是Victoria的嗓音，而从这张专辑单调的器乐编排之上，也让人遗憾《Teen Dream》失去了早前《Beach House》那张专辑当中在多样化乐器使用上的精致。

以一种晦涩甚至是灰暗的心态来诠释少年梦，Beach House音乐当中的阴郁让人在聆听这张专辑时彻骨寒冷，虽然Beach House不过是想借由这张作品来表达他们对一些音乐人诸如Grizzly Bear、Julian Casablancas(The Strokes的主唱)甚至是MGMT的喜爱，却更多地加进了他们自己的主观思想，使得整张专辑的外表像结了一张密不透风的网，歌迷失去了进入它的勇气和方式，唯剩Victoria Legrand和Alex Scally自己在这其中做着属于他们的梦，这种私人化像是末日到来前在黑暗和孤独中自己缓慢地舔舐自己的伤口，却不给受伤的别人一个明确的疗伤方式。（转自新浪娱乐）

Beach House’s Victoria Legrand and Alex Scully isolated themselves during the creation of Teen Dream, holing themselves up in a converted church in upstate New York with producer Chris Coady. But despite that isolation, the sound of the record (according to the band) is anything but insular. Their first album for Sub Pop, and third overall, expands on the band’s warm fuzz, resting their haunting sound on more rhythmic foundations. According to Legrand, "There’s a different kind of intimacy, a physicality on Teen Dream." That physicality may ground you a little more in the hazy world of Beach House, but that might be a good thing. If this new world is as large as they claim it to be, it’s best to keep your bearings.

牛逼的词曲作者Christopher Owens和个性飘逸的制作人Chet “JR” White成立了一个叫Grisls的乐队。后来，在去年夏天，他们在卧室中，排练室内，完成了12首歌的创作，这12首歌刚好符合一张专辑的歌曲数，所以他们就出了一张专辑叫Girls。但这却成为了三藩去年夏天，最完美的12首歌，最牛掰的一张专辑。他们完美的表现了，一个夏天午后的迷迷糊糊的北海公园儿。

专辑里的“Hellhole Ratrace”被Pitchfork奉为年度百佳歌曲之一。

再说说礼拜四的演出。

这次Kid Koala在北京的演出，虽然没有和The Slew全体成员一起来，但绝大多数演出曲目都是The Slew新专辑的歌。在此之前，我还从没听他的新曲目，四年的颇具野心的试验，终于获得回报。HipHop+Rock的模式，一向是鲜有人成功的，甚至作品多数都雷人。。。不论是RUN-DMC和Aerosmith的，还是Linkin Park和Korn的。而The Slew的turntablism和rock结合，再加之Blues，Rock的采样，即兴的bass等，是与众不同而且耳目一新。

当然在演出中，Kid Koala还少不了他的保留曲目，比如MoonRiver，还有压轴大戏Drunk Trumpet，每次听到Drunk Trumpet我就跟打了鸡血似的，这次终于算是能现杀现打了……

The Slew的阵容标配应该是Kid Koala和Dynomite D（好像传说现场有时候还有DJ P-Love，没有深究P-Love是怎么回事）。然后他们俩负责Turntablism部分，剩下的，如果是现场部分，有时候还会有单独负责bass 键盘和鼓的一起做live。这么看来，The Slew少的话可以到一两个人也能演，多的话五六个人也能演，这样更像是“不一定”。总之核心Kid Koala在，The Slew就在。说到不一定，其实不一定里也经常有玩电子的客串，另外窦唯的乐器也挺强的（但是他应该不会喜欢这种Turntablism和那些Hard Rock了），如果下回Kid Koala能多带几个人来，一起和本土的艺人们攒一块儿玩儿，肯定也是一特有意思的事儿，到时候就连他的Emperor’s Main Course都可以重新混起来，比如加上窦唯的笛子什么的。。。。

Cougar’s debut album ‘Law’

Biography :
Conceived in Madison, Wisconsin, Cougar’s instrumental arrangements fall somewhere between Four Tet, Fugazi, and Nick Drake’s guitar work, albeit optimistic as opposed to morose. The band’s singular sound is rooted in a keen sensibility of form and texture, more in line with sample-based music and modern classical than indie rock – which isn’t to say this is rock-as-academia – Cougar also invoke the roaring riff monster, the fist-in-the-air, anthemic head-banger to which so many groups give only an ironic nod.
Extensive touring supported the group’s debut album, Law (mixed with John McEntire of Tortoise), which made numerous Best of 2007 lists in the USA. Live dates in the States and abroad included stints with U.N.K.L.E., Maximo Park, Art Brut and more.
Cougar’s second album, the forthcoming "Patriot" (August 17th on Counter), is an aggressive, narrative affair that sees the band reach even greater extremes than on Law. The epic, sparkling counterpoint of the first record crops up, but Patriot firmly establishes itself as a different music shredding the lines between electronic, rock and modern, one that never forgets to pay allegiance to the hook. If an album of new music raises the question, “What kind of band IS this?” then perhaps the artist is doing their job. Urgent, captivating and strangely moving: emergency rock.

之前在一个网站上看到过这乐队，有兴趣看他们的原因，不仅仅是我手欠，更因为他们名字好玩儿，所以才点进去。当时看到的对这张专辑的评语是这样的。

Soon to be released on ATP Recordings Street Horrrsing is a perfect showcase of why Fuck Buttons are one of the most exciting noise bands around right now. Few bands of this style manage to sound as lush and beautiful as FB do here, highly recommended.

但纵使再牛逼，您一个玩儿脑已滋的，我看着这几个字儿就脑仁儿嗡嗡响。更甭提听了。

知道去年底NT评他们是08最佳唱片之一，我才斗胆听了一把。

我才疏学浅，再加欣赏水平一般，听不出太多好赖，只是有一些小片段，还是处理的挺有意思的而已。

另有一段儿专业的评述：

團名以髒話開頭，似有譁眾取寵之嫌。然聽過Street Horrrsing，只能承認，Fuck Buttons這名字還取得真好。

一如Black Dice、Boredoms或同廠的Bardo Pond，Fuck Buttons兩名英國樂手是披著迷幻噪音外皮的Spacemen 3忠實信徒。鬼魅的扭曲嘶吼搭配原始鼓擊，血腥的聽感浸滿肅殺之氣。太空搖滾的音色包裹著失序與不安，變態的尖叫更讓人冷汗直流。

就像電影魔宮傳奇，Street Horrrsing彷彿讓人親臨一場活人祭典，歷經狂喜似的集體催眠，已分不出眼前究竟是天堂還是地獄。

这张也是Ninja Charts里我最喜欢的之一，乐队介绍可以随便搜搜，到处都是，中文的还是。乐队自己给自己打的铆是Ambient Punk，我认为，自己一下儿就把自己归到什么什么类里的这种做法，有点儿der，或者说很朴实。事实上在这张里，也能听到，他们把好多当下流行的元素，齐了喀嚓全都擩你耳朵里了，也不怕让人听着闹心，你当是张曼玉哪，擩给谁谁乐三天。

还好，这么多东西，真有很耐听的，而且还是在我第一次顺着听Ninja Charts里每一张的时候就发现了的。很妙哈！

Most people recognise the power of a name that fits well. One should not be surprised at the powerful grinding sounds of a band called Fuck Buttons, nor should one be quite taken aback when Casiotone For The Painfully Alone sounds a wee bit emotional.

But Deerhunter are more subdued than their name suggests. For example, instead of enjoying the great outdoors, the narrator of Agoraphobia would rather spend his time in a prison cell. When you make it to the penultimate track, Neither Of Us, Uncertainly, you’ll realise that the song’s title aptly captures the spirit of Microcastle: Deerhunter are not, as their name suggest, epic warriors on the killing fields, rather they are young meek people, awkwardly shuffling past, trying to grasp at some bit of truth before it slowly, inevitably floats away.

After a few listens, Microcastle might take hold in your mind as an indie concerto. Broken into thirds, the album draws you in with some light pop fare before spilling its guts to you in a slow, dramatic middle section. But just when it seems the dark will only get darker, Nothing Ever Happened kicks in with a throbbing beat and pushes you through the last energetic stretch of the album.

But back to the beginning – although Agoraphobia sounds depressing on paper, it turns out to be quite buoyant in the hands of Deerhunter. The upbeat song introduces the album proper after the introductory instrumental, Cover Me (Slowly), grinds to a halt, and it is this sort of tug and pull construction that gives Microcastle some lasting power. Not convinced yet? Later on, the title track sloshes by with singer Bradford Cox barely able to push the words out in time, but just when you think you’re safe in feeling gloomy, the drums come in and nail it into your skull: suffer through it and everything will come out fine.

Deerhunter’s power doesn’t lie in their ability to create fast and slow songs and to put them next to each other in succession. Dynamic flourishes are one of the hardest things to pull off as a band without making it sound cheesy, and Deerhunter are able to give life to each of their crescendos, to give inspiration to each of their fading notes.

The sounds on Microcastle form a lush landscape. Ethereal voices blend into battered guitars and a determined rhythm section. Tagged as an experimental rock group, that abysmal chasm of classifications, Deerhunter lean more towards the ear-to-ear panorama of My Bloody Valentine than the warbled squawks of Lightning Bolt or the intense jabs of Deerhoof. Deerhunter, however, manage to steal a portion of each of those groups, using them to cook up a new recipe of indie experimental delight.
